Question 1

What is the Socratic method of learning?

Accepted Answer

The Socratic method is a teaching approach where the tutor asks guided questions rather than giving answers directly. Instead of being told 'the answer is X,' you're asked 'What do you think might cause X?' This builds deeper understanding and critical thinking skills because you discover knowledge yourself through reasoning.

Question 2

How is Socratic Tutor different from just using ChatGPT?

Accepted Answer

Unlike general AI chatbots that readily provide answers, Socratic Tutor is specifically designed to withhold direct answers and guide you through reasoning. It uses the Socratic method progression (clarify, probe assumptions, explore evidence, consider alternatives) and applies pedagogical techniques that general chatbots don't.

Question 3

What subjects does Socratic Tutor cover?

Accepted Answer

We cover Math, Science, History, Literature, Philosophy, Computer Science, and more. Select your subject from the sidebar to begin. The tutor adapts its questioning style to match the thinking patterns of each discipline.

Question 4

How do difficulty levels work?

Accepted Answer

Beginner level uses simple, direct questions focused on foundational concepts. Intermediate level probes deeper, connecting ideas and asking you to explain reasoning. Advanced level challenges you with complex reasoning, nuanced analysis, and multi-step problem solving.

Question 5

What are scenario modes?

Accepted Answer

Scenario modes frame your learning within real-world contexts. For example, in 'You're a Doctor' mode, questions are presented as clinical scenarios. This makes learning more engaging and helps you apply knowledge in practical situations.

Question 6

What does mistake analysis do?

Accepted Answer

When enabled, the tutor analyzes your incorrect answers and explains why they're wrong — not just what the right answer is. This helps you understand the underlying misconception and avoid similar mistakes in the future.

Question 7

Can I switch subjects during a session?

Accepted Answer

Yes! You can select a different subject from the sidebar at any time. Consider clearing the conversation first to start fresh with the new subject context.

Question 8

Is this suitable for all age groups?

Accepted Answer

The Socratic method works for learners of all ages, from middle school students to adult professionals. The AI adjusts its language and complexity based on the subject and the depth of your responses.
